I was in between (A) and (C). I chose (A), because there is no indictation in the passage that spirtuals predated blues. That's why (C) is wrong, correct?

Hi summer20!

Regarding why answer choice (C) is incorrect, I do see some initial support for it around lines 31-33, where we're told that "both musical forms may be linked to traditional African American culture in North America and to its ancestral cultures in West Africa." However, (C) ultimately seems too narrow--it captures something that is mentioned within the second paragraph but doesn't quite address the function of that entire paragraph within the passage. Rather, the function of the second paragraph is to address the shared origins of both the blues and spirituals, not just precursors of the blues.
