Do we need to memorize the additional premise/conclusion indicator words & the causal indicator words?

Hi Sara,

Hopefully, you will see them so much that memorizing them will actually occur naturally and painlessly But, for the typical student who is first starting out, memorizing those lists provides a fast and comprehensive knowledge of what is occurring in a given argument.

What I also tell my students is that while memorizing a list of words is generally helpful, the really important thing is to learn the concept underneath the list. That way, if the test makers use a word that isn't on the list, you can still see what their intent is and act accordingly. If you can achieve that level of concept understanding, even if you were to forget a certain word on a list, you'd still be able to understand how the word was being used, and you wouldn't be stopped or thrown off during the question.
