D is the most tempting incorrect answer choice, Valentina. But take a look again at the division described in the first paragraph. It's not the difference between language arts and other liberal arts; it's a distinction between the three different types of language arts themselves. It also leaves out the application bit---how were these skills reflected in the society in which they were taught? That was an important part of the passage as a whole here.
