I have a quick question about the retina/rhodopsin question, number seven on page 144.

My question rests with what I assess is the apparent assumption needed regarding the relationship between temperature and molecular motion in the retina in order to land on answer choice B. While the stimulus does say, "The amount of this molecular motion is directly proportional to the temperature of the retina," it does not say whether higher or lower temperature increases or decreases this molecular motion. To make such an assumption, I had assessed would require additional outside/new information.

While some of the other answer choices are incorrect because they were classified as bringing in new information, is the knowledge that molecules are more excited by higher temperatures and less so under lower temperatures considered "common sense knowledge" or covered under the umbrella of the stimulus?

Thank you.

Hi Michael,

This is a tough problem, and one that I've expanded the explanation to over the years in response to thoughtful student questions like yours.

It's Saturday and I'm actually heading out of the office at the moment and am short on time, so I'm going to start by referring you to two threads that talk about this question:

lsat/viewtopic.php?t=6831&p=17176

lsat/viewtopic.php?t=6355&p=16016

If you wouldn't mind, please take a look at those and let me know if they help answer your question. If not, I'll come back through and go more deeply into the discussion with you.

Thanks very much!

Good morning,

Thank you; that was great! Just what I needed and glad I received the lesson early on.

Thank you for taking some of your time to post that on a Saturday. Very much appreciated.
