Hello, I was stuck between D and E. Is E incorrect because (as per the last sentence of the passage) tribes may just eschew aspects of the majority culture that make it difficult to preserve their language, rather than all influences of majority culture? Are there any other reasons why D is preferable to E?

Hi questions,

Exactly. Answer choice (E) makes it seem like the teaching of language to children is eschewing the majority culture, but the passage actually says that they are utilizing tools of the majority culture in order to teach their language to younger members. They are using written forms of oral language as the majority culture uses written forms to teach language. It's not avoiding the majority culture in teaching methods, it's adapting them. They are eschewing aspects of the majority culture that make cultural preservation difficult.

Hope that helps!
