Hi, thank you for your generous help!

Dec 1999 LSAT Sec 3 LR, Q25:

I hesitated between C and D. Eventually I chose D but it is wrong. The correct answer is C.

I chose D because in the 3rd paragraph of the passage, it mentioned 2 difficulties. Could you tell me why C is right and D is wrong :-?

I can understand why answer D was tempting to you. Answer C is correct for a number of reasons. First, the passage starts with the identification of a fact, rather than a question - "Africans introduced rice and the methods of cultivating it into what is now the United States in the early eighteenth century." Next, we find that, "At the heart of Vernon’s research is the question of why..." and learn that "She proposes two intriguing answers." So, in this case, the answer is almost spelled out by the passage, you just have to be looking in the right place to find it!
