How do you know C is what the author values "most" highly? I chose that answer, but can't really describe why. is it in a specific paragraph / line ? Thanks!

It's not so much in any one line, angel, but more in the totality of the circumstances. The author dedicates a substantial portion of the passage (the last paragraph) to a discussion of how these artists adapted their style to fit the larger format of murals. In contrast, there is no virtually no discussion of the ideology of the artists (answer A), or of populist ideas (answer E), so those have to go. Brilliant color gets just one mention, so answer B is a loser, and no mention is made of "elements from everyday life", so answer D is out as well. That leaves only answer C, supported by that entire final paragraph. Winner!
