Hello! I am contemplating what to write my personal statement about. I have one topic idea, but am rather conflicted. I was mute when I was a child. I am thinking about writing how my childhood muteness has shaped my understanding of justice, advocacy, and the legal system and is the primary reason why I want to become a lawyer; to speak for the voiceless as I once was (though in a different way). Do you think that this is a strong PS topic? Or, would me once having childhood muteness garner the perception of law school admissions' officers that I don't have the skills and traits of a lawyer? Or would this topic negatively effect my application in some other way? Thanks!

As a disclaimer, almost any topic can be a good personal statement and it's more about the execution of what you say than what you are talking about. That means that a personal statement about flute lessons can be utterly killer if done the right way. Same for thousands of other topics, from being a runner to being an atheist.

The above said, I think the situation you describe is definitely promising (and I see no negative to talking about it). If you can execute it well, I could see it being great :-D
