Complete Question Explanation
(See the complete passage discussion here: lsat/viewtopic.php?t=11562)

The correct answer choice is (D)

The justification for the correct answer can be found on:

(lines 4-10)

The answer to this question can be found in the opening paragraph, wherein the author presents the prevailing view of a benign host-parasite relationship, confirming the accuracy of correct answer choice (D).

Incorrect answer choices (A) and (B) are both opposite answers, contrary to the prevailing view presented in the stimulus. Answer choice (C) is not discussed in the passage, and answer choice (E) is clearly inaccurate—to survive the common cold, for example, we need to defeat the rhinovirus cause.

Hi,

So the "prevailing view" is the view that was originally held?

Hi Nick!

"Prevailing view" refers to the view currently held by most in the field, or the view that is most prevalent. RC passages often describe a prevailing view, and then introduce new information or viewpoints which challenge that common view in some way.

Hope this helps!

Best,
Kelsey
