Hi I'm a bit confused about the meaning of "politically moderate" from the passage. In paragraph two, the passage states that the ministers were politically moderate, yet it later states that some ministers ran for political office and worked with major parties. I don't see how these two things are "politically moderate."

Being politically moderate is something that ministers risk "jeopardizing" (line 28). I think the sentence mentioning that helps exemplify what it means. We're told that it's "by organizing a civil disobedience campaign" (lines 26-27) that ministers jeopardize their positions as politically moderate community leaders. So that gives some meaning to what being politically moderate means--one thing it means is not organizing a civil disobedience campaign. It also seems like being politically moderate involves "work[ing] through established political channels" (line 64).
