Complete Question Explanation
(See the complete passage discussion here: lsat/viewtopic.php?t=10843)

The correct answer choice is (B)

This question requires you to find the answer that most closely parallels the Kayapo’s documentation of their ceremonial performances on video. Turner found that although they were using Western technology, the Kayapo brought in their own aesthetic when creating the videos.

Answer choice (A): This choice lacks the incorporation of new approaches to a traditional work. Furthermore, the introduction of foreign culinary traditions ultimately altered the culinary practices of North America, unlike the Kayapo’s use of video to document ceremonial performances, which were never altered as a result.

Answer choice (B): This is the correct answer choice. Much like the Kayapo, the composers discussed in this choice apply a new approach to their creations but still retain their own aesthetic, creating a nice parallel to the author’s discussion of the Kayapo.

Answer choice (C): The writers in this scenario seek to alter their work in order to take advantage of a new technology. However, the Kayapo never altered their ceremonies to make them more suitable for visual recording, so this answer choice cannot provide a suitable analogy.

Answer choice (D): This choice deals with imitation of earlier work, which is not analogous to what the Kayapo did.

Answer choice (E): The artists discussed in this choice reject one tradition of painting in favor of another. This does not parallel the Kayapo’s use of video, because they neither rejected their own culture, nor embraced another artistic tradition.

Hi,

According to the Powerscore Practice Evaluation (this test is one of four in the materials for the course), this question is noted as "Specific Reference"; however, I was thinking that this would be a "Concept Reference" question since a specific line was not explicitly stated in the question. Is this question noted as CR because the question directly relates to the information on Line 49 in the passage?

Thanks for your feedback!

Hi, Jennifer,

Great question! "Specific Reference" questions need not refer to a specific line. They could refer either to a specific line, paragraph, or sentence. In this case, the question stem refers to the use of video "in the last paragraph." Because of this paragraph citation, this falls under the umbrella of "Specific Reference." In effect, Specific Reference questions in some way, shape, or form instruct you where to look within the passage. For "Concept Reference" questions, you must rely on "lead words," your recollection of the organization of the passage, or annotations you have made to find the information in the passage necessary to make your prephrase.

I hope this helps!
