Complete Question Explanation
(The complete setup for this game can be found here: lsat/viewtopic.php?t=10929)

The correct answer choice is (A)

The stem requires a single F feature to occupy slots 4 and 5. Thanks to the second rule, we know that an F or a T feature must occupy slot 1. Since we cannot have any T features in accordance with the stem, slot 1 must be occupied by an F feature:

This prephrase agrees with answer choice (A).

Answer choice (B) is incorrect, because we have no reason to include any other F features in the newsletter. Slots 2 and 3 can be occupied by any of the other features.

Answer choice (C) is incorrect, because slot 2 can be occupied by any of the features. Also, note that M is a random variable in this game.

Answer choice (D) is incorrect, because slot 2 can be occupied by any of the features.

Answer choice (E) is incorrect, because slot 3 can be occupied by any of the features.

If a finance feature occupies slot 1 wouldn't that violate the first rule?

Hi Sebastian,

This game is difficult because the rules are odd (and oddly worded). Rule #1 actually means that if there is a single feature that takes up more than one slot, those slots must be together. However, this does not preclude having multiple features of the same type, such as having a single-slot finance feature in slot 1 and then a two-slot finance feature elsewhere in the newspaper; it could even be in slots 2 and 3!

This question is simply asking us to follow Rule #2, that if there is a finance or technology feature, then there must be a finance or technology feature in slot 1. Since there is no technology feature, there must be a finance feature in slot 1.
