Hello!

I did get this question correct, although I was wondering if someone could diagram the proper way to use the "unless" (or in this case "without") equation on (E) as I was getting a bit confused. I got this right by creating my prephrase and also knowing that A-D was completely incorrect. Thank you so much! :)

Hi tkt25!

I'm not sure that I would diagram out answer choice (E) using conditional reasoning. There's an assumption being made that something which had reasons in the past for it (school with long breaks) no longer serves a good purpose in the present just because those reasons for it in the past are no longer as relevant.

That is what answer choice (E) is getting at. If you negate it, it would be, "A school calendar made up of periods of study without long breaks would [not necessarily] serve the interests of children more than a school calendar with long breaks." If that were true, it would make the argument fall apart that long breaks should be removed from the school calendar. That confirms that it's the correct answer.
