Defined-Moving vs. Partially Defined

I'm not sure where I am going wrong, but I am having difficulty understanding the difference between Defined-Moving and Partially Defined.

If someone could please clarify, that would be awesome

Hi sim,

Anything that is straight Defined will mean there is an exact number of variables being selected whereas Partially Defined will have an uncertain number of final variables selected but you'll know at least some of the numbers that must be filled. Consider the following:

• Defined-Fixed: Two committees of exactly 3 people each are being selected from 9 supervisors.
  
  The exactly 6 selected makes this Defined; it's also Fixed because it's always 3 and 3, and that never varies.
  
  
  
  Defined-Moving: Two committees that total exactly 6 people each are being selected from 9 supervisors.
  
  The exactly 6 makes this Defined; it's Moving because although we have 6 total, we don't know how those are allocated among the two committees. Is it 5-1? 1-5? 4-2? 2-4? 3-3? Since the number of people on each committee "moves" around, it's called Moving
  
  
  
  Partially Defined: Two committees of at least 2 people each are being selected from 9 supervisors.
  
  In this case, we know something about how many people are on each committee ("at least 2 people each") but we don't know the exact number on each. Yes, there's a max of 7 but the open-ended nature of what you see is easier labeled as Partially Defined since that gets across the idea that we have partial info about the total variables used, which could be 4, 5, 6, etc.
