Can you please explain how to best tackle #17? After reading the stimulus, I felt (C) to be the right answer. What would be the steps that I need to take to reach the right answer? Thanks!

Hello jonwg5121,

C is not correct because we don't know for certain that animals' sounds/gestures don't communicate abstract ideas or concrete objects. They may, or they may not. But it isn't proven.
So answer D is much better, in that it states explicitly the implicit assumption of the stimulus, that language requires sounds or gestures referring to concrete objects or abstract ideas.

Hope this helps,
David
