With J assigned to locker 5, for the boys to be assigned to consecutively numbered lockers they must be assigned to lockers 2-5. R, a female, must then be assigned to locker 1:
As locker 1 must be a single locker, locker 1 must be on our list and thus answer choices (A), (B), and (E) can be eliminated.
Of course, because J is assigned to locker 5, locker 5 must be a shared locker. Because N and T are assigned to the shared lockers and N and T cannot be consecutive, locker 4 cannot be a shared locker. Thus, lockers 1 and 4 cannot be shared, and answer choice (D) is correct.
