As lines 37-41 show, Posner claimed that the aims of literary criticism ("exploring richness and variety of meaning in texts") and legal interpretation ("discovering a single meaning") are not compatible. You can see it in the wording; one cannot discover both a variety of meaning and a single meaning. This means (A) is not too strong but is directly based on the wording of the passage.

Answer choice (C) has no basis in the text, because Posner never said it, nor can it be inferred from anything he said.
