Complete Question Explanation
(The complete setup for this game can be found here: lsat/viewtopic.php?f=150&t=2097)

The correct answer choice is (B)

If M volunteers, then a significant portion of the chain inference is enacted:

G2-Q10-d1.png

Only L and R are not addressed by the chain, and aside from at least one of the two volunteering per the fourth rule, each can volunteer or not volunteer.

Answer choice (A) can be eliminated because F cannot volunteer.

Answer choice (B) is correct because L could volunteer.

Answer choice (C) can be eliminated because V cannot volunteer.

Answer choice (D) can be eliminated because S must volunteer.

Answer choice (E) can be eliminated because T must volunteer.

Hi,

Question 10 in the Logic Games section of the December 2009 is they type of question that frequently trips me up. It's the question type that asks "which of the following, if substituted, would have the same effect in determining the arrangement"?

What's the best way to approach/solve these problems?

Thanks,
Akshay

Hi Venkataa,

Those are Rule Substitution questions. Here is a list of the ten that have ever appeared on the LSAT: http://www.powerscore.com/gamesbible/lo ... /index.cfm.

An expansive breakdown of how to approach those questions is a bit beyond the scope of the forum, but the newest version of LSAT Logic Games Bible, in pages 450 through 460, contains a detailed analysis of Rule Substitution questions, the various answers that appear, and how to handle them.

The Online Student Centers for our Full-length and Live Online courses contains a breakdown of those questions in the Lesson 11 Homework supplement sections.

Please let me know if that helps. Thanks!
