Greetings,

I was stuck between answer choices (A) and (E).

Is (A) wrong because "all celebrities" too strong?

For (A) I thought that connecting the principles in sentence 4 (some refrain from voting --> serious harm on society) and sentence 1 (serious harm on society --> don't do it), the a.c could work and hence not too strong.

As per (E): I thought that sentence 2 about people following the actions/inactions of celebrities AND widely respected people (two entities) makes (E) a weak choice, given that we only know about "some celebrities [that] do not vote" but do not know about "widely respected peoples'" tendencies.

Ultimately, why is (E) right, and (A) wrong?

Thank you in advance!

Hi SwanQueen,

I'd be happy to assist Your Majesty with your request! :-D

The major issue I have with A is the element of coercion, which isn't mentioned in the stimulus at all. Sure, the stimulus says that individuals shouldn't do certain actions, but nowhere do we see that society should step in and force them not do so. Rather, the stimulus is merely explaining what should be avoided, and (E) is a good match to what we're seeing being described in the stimulus. We shouldn't do anything that has the potential to produce serious harm to society, and not voting can seriously harm a society. Because the public actions of widely respected people are widely emulated, it's safe to say that widely respected people should not publicly refrain from voting, thus running the risk of emulation, which would cause serious harm to a society. Hope this helps!
