would C be wrong because it is too strong for an inference question? Thank you!

Hi Bmas,

Great question! I would definitely agree that C is too strong. While paragraph 3 definitely states that African American musicians were among the first to use the electric bass, which led to experimentation and ultimately a revolution in popular music, the passage doesn't support the idea that the revolution could have never occurred without the Motown musicians. The author is not attempting to make any sort of psychic analysis, and the passage does state that other musicians were among the first to use the electric bass as well. It could very well be that the musicians inspired by the electric bass would have discovered the technology a different way had Motown never used it. Hope this helps!

Take a look at the beginning of paragraph 2, muhammadtheahmed. The passage describes Motown's status as an independent company as responsible for the freedom Gordy had to innovate as a record company. From there, we can infer that if Motown WASN'T independent, ie if it was a subsidiary of a larger music company, Gordy would not have had the same freedom to buck traditional tactics and strategies.
