Hello!

For this question, is there a quicker way besides quickly testing hypotheticals to find out that P has to teach Russian (and not German)? The question is relatively quick to solve after that but it feels like there should be an "easier" way.

Hi lsatep2024!

I'm not seeing a good way to tackle this one other than diagramming out at least some possibilities. Whether you did that at the outset of the game (sometimes it can be helpful to try out some possibilities at the outset to see how the rules interact with one another) or for this specific question, one thing that hopefully jumped out is the unwieldy nature of a K/L/M block. When coupled with the last two rules (N teaches Russian, O teaches French), that block significantly limits the possibilities.

For example, we are given that P teaches German or Russian at the junior high school. You might try diagramming a possibility or two with P teaching German and would find that these don't work, because there isn't room for the K/L/M block or because making room for it leaves no room for N or O to go where they're supposed to go. And if that leads you to the conclusion that P must teach Russian at the junior high, then that leaves only one place for N--the only option is that N must teach Russian at the senior high school. So it's possible to arrive at that conclusion without diagramming out every possibility.
