This is a difficult game-ending question, and one that catches many students off-guard. This also tests the Not Law inference that we mentioned in our discussion of the setup of this game.

Before discussing the inference, note that by using prior information you can eliminate several answer choices. The correct answer to question #1 indicates that month 3 could be empty, which eliminates answer choices (C) in this problem. The hypothetical that solves question #3 also shows that months 1 or 3 could be empty, which would additionally eliminate answer choice (A) here. From that point, you can quickly use hypotheticals to solve for the correct answer—simply put an X in the space in question and see if the you can find a viable solution. If so, eliminate the answer!

From a broader standpoint, month 2 can never be empty because there would be no space for the QT block. If month 2 was empty, then S would be pushed to month 4, leaving the following scenario:

• ___ _X_ ___ _S_ ___ _X_ ___
   1     2     3    4    5     6     7

However, there is now no room for the QT block, and thus we can infer that month 2 can never be empty. Therefore, answer choice (B) is correct.
