Hello,

I was between A and D on this one and chose D but would like to confirm why A is not correct. Is it because A reads like the social historians and their arguments are the subject of the passage whereas D is more focused on the theories themselves as the subject? Social historians and their arguments are mentioned and I think could be reasonably inferred as the source of most of the rest of the arguments in the text but since that wasn't made more clear during the passage, it read more like the author's take on grand theories and their inadequacy, I reasoned that D was better than A.

Thank you,
-Mark

Mark,

That's how I would put it. The author's opinion is clear. But, while at least some social historians may share the author's opinion, that can't be proved with the passage.
