Hi PowerScore,

I hope you could clarify the following conditional statement (when indicator words are not helpful and we need to look into the sentence's meaning):

"Only those are fit to live who do not fear to die." T.R.

Fit to Live (Sufficient) --> NOT Fear to Die (Necessary)

I was thinking really hard about the indicator words "only" and "those/people who", but it was not helpful to me. At the end, I thought about this sentence in terms of what is required for what. In other words, "...not fear to die" is required for "fit[ting] to live...".

Is it correct way of thinking about this conditional statement? Is this diagram correct?

Thanks so much!

Hi Mastering_LSAT,

If we 'translated' Roosevelt's quote into more modern English, it would read: "Only those who do not fear to die are fit to live." In this case, "only" modifies "those who do not fear to die," so the proper diagram is:

Fit to live --> ~Fear to die

You can read more about how to diagram "only" at this PowerScore blog post: https://blog.powerscore.com/lsat/bid-28 ... with-only/

Hope that helps,
Eveline
