For any test takers using templates, you have a shortcut to this inference, as H can only be visited on Monday in Template 1.

Hi,

Can you explain why "H can only be visited on Monday in Template 1" as indicated in the explanation?

If we were to place H on Tuesday then can't we place L on Wednesday, either N or S on Monday, P or the remaining variable between S and N on Thursday and Friday? I am confused as to why H can only be placed on Monday if L was to be placed on Wednesday. Thank you in advance for your assistance and time.

"Template 1" is a reference to the setup explanation for this game, found here: viewtopic.php?f=1196&t=15601

There are 4 templates, and they are based around the OH block. There is only one template that allows H to be on Monday, and that is one in which O is not in the game (because if O was in, then H would be after it, and therefore not on Monday. H would have to be on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday if O was included).

So if H is Monday, O is the one variable that is not included in the group of 5, and all the other variables (LNPS) must be included. The rule we have about L is that if it is included it can only be on Wednesday. Thus, L is on Wednesday, and answer A must be true!

Placing H on Tuesday does not force L to be on Wednesday, though, because L could be the one that is left out. We could, for example, have the OH block on Monday and Tuesday, and then put N and S on Wednesday and Friday with P between them on Thursday. Or, we could put H on Tuesday and L on Wednesday, which would require us to put either N or S on Monday and force O out of the group.
