Why is the answer for question 2 E?

It seems that answer B is also the correct answer choice. The inspection of H cannot be scheduled for day 6. In both cases, whether we put F on either day 1 or 6, we have factory/letter different than H. If we place F on the first day, then R must be on the 6th day because on the 5th day we have Q. We have a rule that says, "Q is inspected immediately before R is inspected." First rule by instructing to place F on day 6 eliminates the possibility of placing there any other letter. Additionally, in the directions it says that "each factory will be inspected once, one factory per day." Thus, it must be false that "The inspection of H is scheduled for day 6." Consequently, answer choice B is the correct answer choice.

What am I misreading?

Thank you so much for your help in advance.

Hello, lbayliyeva,

The correct answer choice for question 2 is E, because of the interactions between the second and third rule. The second rule says that

J > Q

The third rule gives us a QR block. So between the two:

J > QR

This means that R cannot be inspected on the first or second day, because both J and Q must be inspected before R.

As far as H, if H is on day 6 and F is on day 1, Q does not necessarily have to be on day 5. Imagine the following scenario:

F J Q R G H

That solves fine and doesn't violate any rules! Therefore, answer choice E is the correct choice, because B is possible.

Hope that helps,
