For game 12 3-49 question 11. I am a bit confused as to how they got that the only three fire fighters we are working with are F,I,J. If garner does not work why does it mean that howell also does not work?

Hi A,

According to the last rule of that game, if H works, then G must work on the following day.

So, H's presence on the schedule requires G's presence on the following day. Thus, if G is not scheduled then H cannot be scheduled.

In conditional terms, if H works, then G must work the next day (creating an HG block):
H  HG

The contrapositive would tell us that if there is no HG block, H cannot be scheduled:
HG  H

I hope that's helpful--please let me know whether this is clear--thanks!
