Hi Powerscore -

I was caught between A and C. Can you explain why A would be wrong? I thought "imagined" would imply that this relationship was not the case, but that he drew conclusions with it anyways. The author refutes his idea that Anglo culture was as influential as he says it was, so I figured that would work. (I chose A originally but C on BR... couldn't explain well why one was better than the other)

van,

I think answer choice (A) can be disposed of by considering that the reference to "Anglo art" in the answer has no match in the passage. According to Amsden, Navajo art changed styles because of Anglo influences and encouragement, but nowhere does it say that the influence and encouragement was from examples of Anglo art. If we follow Amsden, we may know what Anglos wanted Navajo art to contain - we don't know what Anglo art contained. The influence could comprise Anglo preferences (line 14 seems to indicate this) without being something that art produced by Anglos actually involved.

In short, we don't know what features Anglo art had, so that part of answer choice (A) cannot be supported.
