The correct answer is (C), so you're good on that. The penultimate sentence of the first paragraph is where I went to prove answer choice (C). Paraphrasing: "The biodiversity crisis is going to be bad. Really bad. We're not sure how bad, but it's definitely going to be bad." And that fits the answer well!
