Hi,

I was deciding between C & E for this question, but chose C--can someone explain why it is wrong? Is it because we don't know about the "judgment" of architect vs. engineer? I thought that Wagner saying "architects will in time succeed in extending their influence into the realm occupied by the engineers, so that legitimate aesthetic demands can be met in a satisfactory way" (internal quotes omitted) was kind of saying that architects' aesthetic opinion is needed so that legitimate aesthetic demands can be met in a satisfactory way--is that wrong? Why?

Hi crispycrispr!

The main issue with answer choice (C) is that it says the judgement of the engineer should be as important as the judgment of the architect. This is too strong. We don't know if Wagner believes it should be as important (greater than or equal to).

In contrast, answer choice (E) can be proven directly from the words in the passage. The answer choice says, the architect should acquire the knowledge of technical matters typically held by the engineer. Line 33 in the passage reads, "he envisaged the architect developing the skills of the engineer..."

For reading comprehension questions, always go with the answer choice that can be most directly proven by the information in the passage!
