Just making sure what do u mean in step 3 of solving max/min

IN LG bibles, 3 rules/tricks to solve max/min Qs exist.

3) "if multiple answers remain in contention, in order to decide which answer is correct, attempt to create a solution that matches the greatest/least possible remaining among the answers. "
Be specifically I am asking about The part about "attempt to create a solution that matches the greatest/least possible remaining among the answers."
