Why is answer choice A) wrong?

Microbes feed off organic molecules in shale and sediments, so when organic molecules in exposed sediments are depleted, microbes' activity will also soon diminish.

Please help me with this question. Thank you.

Do you mean the part "as" =since makes this choice wrong?

Because I thought A could be true if it is indeed depleted, it will soon diminish...because it consumes the thing.

The key here is that, just because they are being consumed, we can't assume they will be depleted; for example, the organic molecules could be constantly replaced. Make sense?
