Hi,
I see why B is correct , but I can't get rid of D. For me both answer choices are saying only the rich had access to Shakespeare's work .

Hi John,

The trick here is to remember that you're looking for the main point. I'd prephrase the main point as, "Shakespeare's plays have not always extended beyond educated elites." B says just that. D, on the other hand, is MUCH more broad, indicating that ONLY educated elites have ever loved Shakespeare's work. That goes far beyond what the passage gives us, so it can be ruled out.
